  • Zusatztext
    • This book provides a detailed look at the structural principles of biotensegrity and the relevance it may have for the architecture of living structures. The author, Danièle-Claude Martin, begins with fundamental thoughts on the integrative mechanics of the human body and progresses to a theoretical framework of biotensegrity that can be useful for both body therapists and movement practictioners. Readers will also find discussions of key concepts in biotensegrity that reflect the concrete application in a wide variety of fields. In this book: Introduction to biotensegrity: observations - need - history Exploring the principle: constructing models - discovering the essential aspects - implications of the tensegral approach Applying the principle to living structures: the principle in nature - theoretical framework for bodywork - new perspective on anatomy and on movement Contributors: Liane Simmel: Dance and Biotensegrity Michèle Tarento: Ostéo-éveil and biotensegrity Nadine Quéré: Biotensegrity and manual fascia therapy: the importance of the bone structure Bernard Payrau: Reflections of a cardiologist inspired by the concept of Biotensegrity Diane Drake Vincentz: Exploring the Biotensegral Response Potential With Special Needs Children and Adults - Advanced Biomechanical Rehabilitation Marc Nürnberger: Towards a tensegral grammar
  • Kurztext
    • Biotensegrity is an English word formation based on tension, that is, tension and integrity, wholeness, cohesion. The term stands for a mechanical model of biological structures and functions and for the architecture of living structures. This system is primarily about the principles of tension and compression. The model has far-reaching consequences for manual therapeutic treatment.
  • Autorenportrait
    • Physicist, movement researcher and educator. Since 1989 Dr Martin has been practicing Chinese arts of movement (Qi Gong, Tai Ji Quan and Yi Quan); she is also trained in dance therapy and in Spiraldyamik® (three-dimensional movement coordination) and worked as a movement therapist at a psychosomatic clinic for eight years. Dr Martin studied biotensegrity with Dr Stephen Levin and Tom Flemons. In 2009 she set up an international think-tank focussed on biotensegrity: the Biotensegrity Interest Group (B.I.G.). The group meets every year. She has developed movement concepts based on her diverse background and integrated them into a unified programme. She now practices as a freelance "living biotensegrity" teacher.
