    • Under Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg, who founded the palace in 1704 and gave it his name, Ludwigsburg Palace was soon expanded with expansive gardens and the nearby pleasure palace Favorite. The town, founded in 1709, is also part of the overall complex and shortly thereafter received the rank of a residential town. One of the successors, Duke Carl Eugen, included the greater region in the complex. He covered the surrounding countryside with a network of straight avenues, had what later became Monrepos Palace laid out on the Eglosheim Lake and crowned his striving for representation beginning in 1764 with Solitude Palace and its gardens. In the early 19th century, King Friedrich I gave the little palace Monrepos and parts of the gardens the appearance they have today. In the historical overview of this guide, the artistic contexts and the political backgrounds of 'Ludwigsburg - The Entire Complex' become clear. The subsequent tour offers informative details and makes it possible to understand architectural and historical conditions 'on site'.
