    • This book deals with the phenomenon of sand encroachment due to wind erosion and vegetation cover degradation processes in arid and semi-arid areas (White Nile State area as an example) and the methods of assessment and monitoring of sand encroachment using integration of satellite imagery, GIS techniques, field survey observations and practical analysis results. The book contains five chapters. Chapter one concentrates on the introduction, problem statement, justifications and the over all and specific objectives of this study. Chapter two concerns with the literature review of soil, aggregate stability, dry lands, drought, land degradation /desertification, sand encroachment, dunes, measurement of soil degradation, remote sensing, and geographical information system (GIS). Chapter three reviews some information about the study area and the integration methodology for assessment and monitoring of sand encroachment in White Nile State. In chapter four emphasis are laid on the results and discussions of study. The book is concluded with chapter five which contains conclusion, recommendations, references and appendices.
